PRESIDENTS DAY
BUDDY BASH.& |
Jean Wilson (Club Captain) presenting the Presidents Trophy to
Dave Jones (Club President).
the Presidents Day also incorporates the Buddy Bash. This is to
raise funds for the club.
The President chooses 6 players from a list of entrants, the the
Captain does the same until
there are 2 full teams. They then play 7 ends an the highest
score wins the Presidents Trophy.
Unfortunately this year the rain started the same time as the
match and because persistent heavy
drizzle the match was abandoned after 3 lots games had been
played.
The winners of the match were the Presidents Team by 127-77.
All friends and members then enjoyed a most wonderful buffet.
After the buffet members played the Spider for a bottle
Champagne,
then the day was concluded.
A special thanks to Lesley Burnside, Jean Wilson, and Dorothy
Davies for organising the buffet and raffle.
And John Cadwallader & Ron Reed for organising the games.
A special thank to the members of Chelmarsh Bowls Club and
Highley bowls Club.

A presentation
was made at the Presidents Day.
Lesley Burnside, presenting Liz Quickendon, with a cheque of
£320.00.
Liz is the local representative of the first Cleobury Mortimer
Responders
The money was raised at a charity held earlier.
Liz, expressed thanks for the donation.
Apparently these volunteers have to fund most of their expenses
themselves. |

These 3 players played extremely well to win this trophy.
They played against Roy Broome, Terry ? and Howard Broome.
although the losing finalist played very well they could not
match the winners.
The final score was 21-6.

Highley Ladies, Craven Arms Ladies, Castle Ladies & 2 teams from
Cleobury.
All games were 15 up.
Castle Ladies won against Highley Ladies in the first
preliminary round.
The 1st. semi-final:
Castle Ladies won against Craven Arms Ladies.
The 2nd semi-final:
Cleobury 'A' won against Cleobury 'B'.
The final:
Cleobury 'A' won against Castle Ladies.
15-11.

DANIEL TAYLOR AIR AMBULANCE DAY
A really good day was enjoyed by Cleobury Mortimer bowls Club
members
and friends from The Highley & Chelmarsh Bowls Clubs.
It was a very sunny day just right for all of the bowlers.
The format was the well proven system of 4 sections with 3 game
of 7 ends, in pairs, with the the highest scores going into the
semi- finals.
The final was played over 9 ends.
Norman and Hilda kept up their good form
to win 21-3 after 7 ends.
A total £347.00 was raised for the Air Ambulance Charity.
This essential charity is so well worth supporting.
It is so vital in these rural areas.
A special thanks must go Lesley Burnside & Jean Wilson for
preparing the wonderful buffet.
And to Phil Pack & John Cadwallader for organising the matches.
There was a lot of help from other members and a big thank you
goes to them.

CLEOBURY MORTIMER BOWLS CLUB CHARITY DAY.
A very enjoyable days bowling was enjoyed by club members
and supported by friends and fellow bowlers from
Chelmarsh Bowls Club & Highley Bowls Club.
The format was once again pairs, playing 3 games of 7 ends and
the best two
pairs played in a 9 end final.
This years Charity will support the
CLEOBURY MORTIMER FIRST RESPONDERS.
A total of over £300.00 pounds was raised with more to come in.
This a really well worth charity to support.

Pam and Dave won 13-1 after 7ends. the played extremely well to
win by such a large margin,
but Hilda & Brian played a very good game but always came up a
little short.

Mick & Dorothy played 3 excellent game of 21 up to win this this
trophy
The winning score for the final was 21-17.
The Jules Cup is the only trophy solely for Senior Citizens.

(scratch mixed doubles) |
5 pairs took part on a scorchingly hot day and the green was
flying.
The final was between Lesley & Joe Burnside & Pam Lacey & Howard
Broome.
The final was Pam & Howards 3rd game of the afternoon.
The game started very slowly with both teams scoring 1s which
made it a very long and hot final.
Lesley & Joe eventually won 21-16
Well done all players. |

Tony was the losing finalist. It was a tremendous final with
Tony taking a very good earley lead of 18-10. Roy fought back to
get to 19-20 down the played two superb woods to take the final,
Well played to both finalists. Unfortunately there were only 4
entries, this was probably because of the poor weather
conditions. |

Brian & Howard played very well throughout the competition,
In the semi-final the were 17-8 down but fought back to win
21-17.
In the final they were never behind and leading 19-13
then had a bit of a scares as they went 20-19 down but put 2
good shots in to win 21-20
Well played to all competitors.
8 pairs took part meaning the finalists played 3 games of 21 up.

This final was a terrific game with Jean & Brian going 12-1 up
in the first 7 ends then came a tremendous fight back by Lesley
Burnside & and Nick Flatters to get to 12-14,
but Jean and Brian held on to win a worthy game 21-16.
Both pairs played 3 games. 6 pairs took part in the competition.
Brian Sheldon instigated this competition in 2013 in memory of
his late friend Bob Atkiss.

Nick played superbly in four (including the final) rounds of
this competition, to win in a superb
final. Nick was 12-1 down, to Roy Broome, after 7 ends but
fought back to draw level at 12 across. Then it was tit for tat
for a few ends with Roy going 19-15 up. Then Nick won the last 5
ends to win a terrific final 21-19.

Jean (this years Club Captain) played extremely well in three
rounds of this competition.
The handicap is 2 shots start for all lady bowlers, but in the
final they both played of scratch
The losing finalist was Lesley Burnside who also played in 3
rounds.
Both players but on a game of the highest standard,
but Jean had the edge all through the game,
finally after 29 ends she won 21-16
