61 members and friends attend and enjoyed a superb 3 course
meal. The top class after dinner

Norman Brookes, (r) being presented with a token of appreciation

Club President Dave Jones. Norman has been the club Treasure for
13 Years
and has decided to retire from the post at the end of this year.
His work as treasurer has been exemplary through out the
years. |

for a long number of years,
and has decided to take a rest from the post at the end of this

His work over the years has been very important to the club. |

Winners of the Ludlow League K.O. Trophy.
The team played extremely well to win the K.O. Trophy.
Winning 211-197 in shots.

Cleobury:

The team played extremely well to reach the final, but the
handicap of 65 shots was a little
to much to over come. They won 7-3 in games but lost 197-211 on
shots.
Well played the whole team.

PRESIDENTS DAY
SUNDAY
SEPTEMBER 15TH 2017 |
Dave Jones (club president) & Lesley Burnside (club captain)
Dave is presenting Lesley with the Presidents Trophy. The trophy
is played for on
Presidents Day: the President & Club Captain pick their teams
from a list of players
available: 6 at a time. the match is played over 3 games of 7
ends with the result on shots.
This is the first year, since 2011, that the Club Captain 's
team has won.
It was a resounding victory 194-189
Well done the Captain's team.
This day is also the prize presentation day, but this was cut
short by the heavy rainfall.
A wonderful buffet was enjoyed in the Pavilion.
The day was well supported with visitors from Highley Bowls
Club, Chelmarsh Bowls Club
and Craven Arms Bowls Club, thanks for your support.
Special thanks to Lesley Burnside, Jean Wilson & Pam Lacey for
providing the buffet.
And once again to John Cadwallader & Phil Pack for organising
the games,

The money, £310.00, was raised at a Charity Day that was held
earlier in the season.

It was a fantastic final, in which the winning team were never
in front until the score was 16-17
then they edged their way ahead, with some super woods, to take
the trophy.
The losing finalists: Howard Broome, Roy Broome & Bob Steele
added to the final with good leads
and great recovery shots.
5 teams took part in a very enjoyable afternoons sport.

Highley Bowls

Air Ambulance
Day September 3rd 2017 |
Highley Bowling Club Air Ambulance Day turned out to be a rather
damp day with continual drizzle and showers all through the day.
These conditions though did not dampen the members who and
friends who took part, with everyone having a good days bowling.
20 pairs took part and the usual format 3 games of 7 ends each
game was used in the competition.
Because of the conditions the highest scores from the 2 sections
went straight a final,
played over 9 ends.
The final was played between: Tony, Wilson & Pat Pargetter, (l)
& Dorothy Cowdell, & Brian Williams,
Tony & pat played extremely well to win 11-4.
Well played both players.
A special thanks goes to all of the ladies who provided a
wonderful buffet and gentlemen
who prepared the green in such good condition.
Also thanks to John Cadwallader & Phil Pack for once more for
ensuring the competition
went without a hitch.
A total of £363.00 was raised for the Air Ambulance.
A service that is so much appreciated.

CAPTAINS DAY
August 20th
2017 |
Lesley Burnside (Club Captain) presenting the prizes the the 4

The day stated off very well weather wise, with everyone
enjoying the bowls matches. and enjoyed a wonderful Buffett
lunch.
The rain Started just about the same time as the Semi-finals
were to begin.
So the games were reduced to seven ends.
A special thanks must go to the Club Captain, for providing a
wonderful day.
Also to the three ladies for the Buffet lunch.
And once again to Phil Pack and John Cadwallader, for organising
the games. |

This, was a special celebration held before the Captain's Day
games started.
Ken Link (centre) has played for Mortimer: Ludlow league, since
2015 and has always
been available when needed. In that time he has played played 45
games.
On Thursday August 17th. he won his first game and was promised
when he won a game everyone would buy him a tot of whiskey, but
they bought him a bottle of whiskey instead.
It just goes to show: keep on trying and you will win in the
end.

Joan & Les won 7-5 after 9 ends.
The final was a very tight match with the score at 5-5 after 8
ends, but Joan & Les
scored a super 2 on the last end to take the match.
43 members and friends took part in this annual competition.
The numbers were boosted considerably by members of Highley
Bowls club
& Chelmarsh Bowls Club.
Thanks must go to Lesley Burnside who organised the event with
the help of the Cleobury Ladies.
Once again a special thanks goes to Phil Pack & John Cadwallader
for organising the games. Members played 3 games of 7 ends in 3
groups with the best 2 scores playing in the final.
The weather, as can be seen from the photographs, was very kind
to us,
but every one enjoyed themselves.
A total of £260.00 was raised for this very worthy cause.

CHARITY DAY |
The finalists for the first Charity Day match.
Ron Reed & Richard Green (I) Mary Betteridge & Roy Broome.
The format for the competition was three games of 7 ends in 3
sections with the 2 highest scores
playing in the final. Ron & Richard won their section with 30
shots,
and Mary & Roy won their section with 27 shots.
It was a cracking final with Mary & Roy winning 3 shots on the
first end the Ron & Richard
got a 1 then a 4 then it was nip and tuck with Ron & Richard
finally winning 9-6.
Well played both pairs.
This event was also very well supported by the wonderful members
of
the Highley Bowls Club, and the Chelmarsh Bowls Club.
A big thanks to Lesley Burnside for organising the event and to
all the background helpers.
With a big thank you to Phil Pack & John Cadwallader for their
organisation of the the games.
A total of £306.00 was raised and this will go to the local
NIGHTINGALE NURSES & the MILLBROOK SUITE at Kidderminster
Hospital.

Roy Crowther (Burway) winner of the Ludlow League Cup. (for the
4th time)
The final was against Roy Broome (Cleobury Mortimer)
Roy Broom started the match -2 shots. Roy Crowther took a good
early lead of 11-5
Roy Broome fought back to 14-11 then Roy Crowther finished of
with 21-14.
Well played both finalists, they played 4 games each on a very
hot day.
16 players took part on

Simon Parsonage presented the Junior Merit Cup to Harry
Parsonage
George Cooper was the losing finalist.
Unfortunately, there were only 2 entrants but a top class game
was played.
George went into a 13-4 lead then Harry got the jack and went
17-13 up,
George came back 18-17 down with Harry finely winning 21-17.
Well played to these young players who both represent the
Shropshire junior County.
Simon sponsors the Ludlow and District Bowles League and is
Harry's father

This trophy was presented in memory of CHARLES REED, Ron's
father.
The losing finalists were Joe Taylor & Chris Cowdell.
The final was almost a game of two halves with Tony & Roy
storming into a 15-0 lead,
but with a change of lead Joe & Chris fought back to 15-18 but
Tony & Roy
hung on to win 21-15.
Well played both pairs.

This an annual match played at Gilt Edge Bowls Club and Cleobury
Mortimer Bowls Club
alternately.
This year there is a certain poignancy attached to today's match
as
Allan Powel who donated The Trophy passed away on March 27th.

This is the first time in 4 years that Cleobury have won the
trophy.
The format of play was pairs playing 15 ends with aggregate
score winning.
It was a superb win with Cleobury Mortimer
winning 146-114 and winning 6-4 in games.
A big thank you to Lesley and Jean for preparing the buffet,
to Lauren collecting the raffle monies, Tony Wilson for
organising the match.
Also a big thank you to Phil Pack for producing a top class
Green.
