PRESIDENTS DAY
Sunday September 20th. 2015

Albert Mantle, (Club Captain) (r) is seen handing the Presidents Trophy to
Dave Jones, (Club President) after the annual Presidents day tournament.
The Presidents team won the match 236 shots to 222 shots.
The match format is based on doubles and singles.
The doubles played 3 games of 7 ends and the singles played 3 games of 9 ends.
It was very close all through the match. But the Presidents team finished with a flourish
and secured a good victory.
The club was supported by Chelmarsh Bowling Club and Highley Bowling Club,
and this all added to very good social feeling.
A special thanks once again to John Cadwallader and Phil Pack for organising the competition.
Also a thanks to Lesley & Lauren Burnside for organising the trophy stand and the Spider competition.
The Spider competition was won by Colin Brookes of the Highley Bowls Club.

This trophy will be competed for annually by the senior citizen members.
Dennis was a much loved and respected member of the Club.
and is sorely missed.

THE SUNDAY MORNING K.O.
Scratch 4s

Sunday September 13th 2015

The Sunday Morning K.O. turned out to be a cracker of a final.
It is a competition for 4 players in each team, but due to unforeseen circumstances
the winning team ( the Wurzels) were unable to field a full team. The rules state that a team can play with 3 players but without extra woods. So the Wurzels were really up against it.
They played against the Miffs and took a very good early lead of 11-2 but as the match progressed the Miffs got into the game and with some fine play went into 20-19 lead.
Ron Reed put up a very good lead and Ken Link got in a top class second.
Mick Davies put in good blocking shot and they ran out 21-20 winners.
It was a top class match and well done to both teams,

Club Captain Albert Mantle.

This competition was won by the Chain Gang with a walkover.
The Misfits were unable to field a team.

 

 

THE MOTTERSHEAD CUP
Scratch Triples

Saturday September 12th 2015

It was a real family affair when
Albert Mantle Club Captain, Presented Lesley Burnside, Lauren Burnside & Joe Burnside
with the Mottershead Cup. Lesley, Joe & Lauren are Mother, Father & Daughter.
Albert is Lesley's Father.
It was top class final with the match going to & fro until they were 16 across then suddenly Lesley & co. closed the match  to win 21-16.
Well played to all three.

The LADIES CUP
Saturday September 5th. 2015

Lesley Burnside being presented with the Ladies trophy by Gordon Griffiths.
Lesley defeated Christine Lloyd 21-18.
It was a top class match, with Christine taking a good early lead of 14-6,
but Lesley stuck to the task and fought back to win a thrilling final.
Well played to both players.

Christine beat Colin McMurray 21-13 to win this trophy
which is for members who are 70 years or more.

REED CUP
Saturday August 22nd 2015

The Reed Cup Was contested on Saturday 22nd August 2015
in very hot conditions.
Chris Cowdell (L) and Albert Mantle won the final 21-12.
They had to beat Bob Jennings and Ivor Lloyd to take the trophy.
Chris and Albert, played 3 games including the final to win the Trophy.

 

LUDLOW MERITS
SUNDAY AUGUST 16TH 2015

He played against Wayne Rogers, pictured, in the final of this competition.
30 players took part at Cleobury Mortimer Bowling Club.
It was generally agreed that the standard of play over the day was top class.
The final turned out to be of the highest standard,
with score going to and fro for the whole of the match.
The final score being 21-19
Well played to both finalists and to all of the other contestants.

 

Sunday August 16th 2015
THE HIGLEY LEAGUE DIVISION 2 DOUBLES CUP

Jim Roberts (L) and Christine Lloyd, with  Highley League Division 2 Doubles Cup.
Jim & Christine defeated Dave & Hazel Grainger 21-20 in their semi-final;
and then went onto beat Keith Banks & Tony Howells 21-13 in the final.
Mark Bennett, Highley league chairman, presented the cup to the winning pair.
Congratulations and well played to both of you.
 

 

 

DOWNES CUP
 
(SCRATCH PAIRS)
SATURDAY AUGUST 15TH 2015

The Downes Cup competition took place on Saturday August 15th 2015.
Only 5 pairs took part in this competition but non the less the quality was top class.
The final was contested between Bill Taylor & Joe Taylor (father & son)
and Colin McMurray & Chris Cowdell.
Bill & Joe started very well with a 1 & 2 x 4s, but Colin & Chris soon got back into the game
with some high scoring ends which included 3 x 4s and eventually won
won 21-17.
Well played to both pairs.
The presentation was made by Alert Mantle the Club Captain.

DANIEL TAYLOR'S
AIR AMBULANCE DAY
Held at Cleobury Mortimer Bowls Club

Sunday August 9th 2015
Some of the friends and members taking part.
 
It was a very good day for this years
Daniel Taylor Air ambulance Day.
40 members and friends played 3 games over 7 ends and
a good time was had by all.
Thanks must go to Lesley & Lauren Burnside for providing
a wonderful buffet. Thanks also to everyone who helped.
Also to Phil Pack & John Cadwallader for their usual
skill in organising the competition.
A total £300.00 was raised for this worthy cause.
Thank you everyone.

Lorraine and Joe played really well to win the 8 end final. They were 5-1 down
after 5 ends but scored a 3 and a 4 on the last 2 ends to win 8-5.

2015 Air Ambulance Day

John and Phil are the backbone of the competition. They both work hard at organising all of the competitions where the round robin formats are concerned.
Everyone really appreciates all of the hard work that they.
So a big thanks to the pair of them.

42 players took part in 3 sections playing 7 ends each game.
there was no semi-finals.
The two highest score from the sections went into the final.

A special thanks must go to the Ladies of the Highley Club for organising the interval buffet, it was super.
And a special thanks to Ron Smith for preparing a superb green to play on.
The weather was very good all day long,
which made for a really great day.
£200.00 was raised for the Air ambulance
There will be the Daniel Taylor Air ambulance Day to be held at the Cleobury Mortimer Bowls Club on Sunday August 9th

2015 JIM PALMER TROPHY
Cleobury Mortimer Bowls Club
Played host to the Jim Palmer Trophy,
on Sunday July 5th.
The weather was very sunny and conditions were perfect. The green was in immaculate condition for the event and running quite fast, but a sudden storm
flooded the green. The play was suspended until it stopped raining and  3 club members got to work and cleared the green of the excess water and with about
40 minutes it was playable again.

Highley Bowls League President.
Losing finalist John Palmer (r) is the son of the late Jim Palmer
Phil Played extremely well and had to play 4 games to win the trophy. There was an entry of 30 for the competition
which was very pleasing to the Highley League officials.

 POPPY DAY APPEAL
SATURDAY JULY 4th 2015
50 Members and British Legion supporters attended the annual Poppy Day
appeal event. The day was blessed with very good weather which made for
some excellent bowling  and a really enjoyable day all-round.
The format was as usual at this type of event. A bowler and a non-bowler
were paired together and some surprising play from the non-bowlers
added to the excitement.
Each each pair played 7 ends with the highest scorers going into the
semi-final and the finalist was played over 8 ends.
The eventual winners being Dorothy Davies & Phil Pack,
beating Tony Wilson & Dave Walford
The score being 7-3. Well played to both pairs.  
A total of £200.00 was raised for the Poppy Appeal.
A special thanks to all of the British Legion members from Rock & District,
Clee Hill and Cleobury Mortimer branches who attended,
either to bowl or just as spectators.

CAPTAIN DAY JUNE 28TH 2015

Betty & Joan had played superbly all day long, as had Jim & Wade; but in the final Betty & Joan really hit top form and ran out good winners wining the final 7-2 over 9 ends.

The JACK-IN-BOX Trophy
Saturday June 20th.

The Jack-In-The Box Trophy was play for on Saturday June 20th.
It was postponed on Saturday June 13th because of heavy rain flooding the Green.
But this Saturday good weather prevailed but one shower half way through the match,
8 pairs contested the trophy. With some very good early rounds being played
But the best play was reserved for the final. It was generally agreed the it was the best pairs final for some seasons.
Their opponents were Joe Burnside & Colin McMurray who played their part in making it a top class final.
Although Stan & Mike led for the major part of the match, Joe and Colin
were always in touch. It was a tense finish with Stan & Mike
finally winning 21-19
Well played both pairs.

 

The ALLUN MARTIN CUP
Saturday May 30th 2015

from Club Captain, Albert Mantle. Mike, played tremendously well all day to win the Allun Martin Cup. He played three games to reach the final.
He won a great final playing against Lesley Burnside.
The final score was 21-18, well played to both finalists

WAKEMAN CUP (handicap singles)

Lauren had to play 3 games to win the trophy. She played superbly in each of her games, and beat Albert 21-11 (she received a 4 shot start)

Today's match was played in the best of spirits with everyone really enjoying the day.
Unfortunately for Cleobury Gilt Edge were on top form and won the match quite convincingly.

Also thanks to Tony Wilson for Organising the match & the match cards.
Each game was played over 18 ends in pairs.
