The Presidents Day |
Betty Rose, Club Captain, presenting the Presidents Trophy to,

The Club President.
The trophy is contested every year between The Club Captain's
team and the
Presidents team. The teams are picked from Cleobury Mortimer
Bowls Club members and guests from the Highley Bowls Club.
A fantastic day was had by all members and friends. The format
was the usual one
The Club Captain chooses a play then the President will choose a
player and so on.
There were 46 players to choose from and these would play 3
games of 5 ends
and the team with highest aggregate would win the trophy.
This the Presidents team won by a margin of 32 shots.
the final total being 205-173.Well done the Presidents team.
The day also incorporates the presentation day when al the club
trophies are awarded.
A special thanks to Phil Pack and John Cadwallader for
organising the games and keeping everyone informed of the
running results. Also everyone who prepared the top class green
to play on. |

The second
Poppy Day Appeal |
Ron Reed (c) & Andrew Morris(r),
being presented with the Poppy Day Appeal Trophy, from Jim Hulme
Chairman of the Cleobury Mortimer branch of the Royal British
Legion.
The final was a tremendous game with both pairs playing woods up
to the
Jack with great accuracy and the tape was used regularly.
The final score was 5-4 over 9 ends

it was played on a very murky evening but it was a very good
game under the conditions.
The losing finalists were Albert Mantle and Ivor Lloyd.

Five teams entered this competition and it started at 2.30 and

Cheryl played Christine Lloyd in the final and won 21-11 but the
scores did not reflect the part Christine played in the final.
she was 9-10 down to Cheryl
at one stage but the super play by Cheryl saw her take a very
good lead and finished very strongly.
Well played to both players.
Unfortunately only 5 Ladies signed up for the competition
but all of the games were of a very high quality.
It is the 40th. year of competition for this Trophy.

All four finalists produced a very good final game but
Roger & Chris proved just to strong for Lorraine and Ray on the
day.

The Daniel Taylor
Air Ambulance Day once again prove to be a very enjoyable event
in the clubs calendar. The day was shared with Cleobury club
members and friends from Highley bowls club. The pairs were made
up of a Cleobury player and a Highley Player and were matched
were it was possible. The bowling format was the round robin
system with three games of 7 ends and the highest scorers from
each group going into the semi-finals and then the finals.
A special thanks goes to Phil Pack & John Cadwallader for
organising the games with their usual thoroughness and
expertise. Phil, as the green keeper, also so produced a superb
playing surface,
A total of £312.00 was raised for the Air Ambulance.
Also a very special thanks to Lesley Burnside and her daughter
Lauren for providing a lovely buffet meal and also running the
raffle. Once again Howard Broome took care of the washing-up.
With the brilliant sunshine everyone had a wonderful day.
All monies raised will of cause go directly to the Shropshire
Air ambulance.
This is a truly good cause to support.
On Sunday August 3rd Highley Bowls Club will host their Air
Ambulance Day, start time is 13.00 hours. Please support this
worthy cause. |

won a very hard fought match against Joe Taylor and Howard

The Cleobury
Mortimer Bowls Club was chosen to host the 1st & 2nd division
Highley League Singles competitions for 2014 season.
With ideal weather and the usual top class playing surface, all
games were of a very high standard.
A buffet meal was provided after the two semi-finals had
finished

It was a very good final, with both pairs being at one time 12
across, but Phil & Joe turned it on and ran out 21-13.
Eight pair took part and all of the heats were of a very high
quality and all of the players should be proud of the

The 2014 Captains
Day event was a tremendous success.
There were
worry's about the weather, after the Friday and Saturday down
pours, but the Sunday morning was bright and sunny and it stayed
so all day long.
As usual there
was a very good turnout for this event. with 75 members and
friends enjoying the day with 56 members and friends taking part
in the bowling. (Some young guests played bowls for the first
time and showed real talent, they could be our future and
hopefully some will take the game up seriously)
A special thanks
goes to Lesley Burnside & her daughter Lauren for preparing the
wonderful buffet lunch. also to Ann & Jean for helping to serve,
Howard and Albert for doing the washing up also anyone who is
not mentioned a special thank you to you all. And of course to
Phil & John.
And a special
thanks to 2014 club Captain Betty Rose running the event and
for providing the
prize draw for
all of the lady members.

The Ludlow league finals were held at Cleobury Mortimer Bowls

on Sunday June 22nd.

The Ludlow ladies
league chose Cleobury Mortimer Bowls Club to stage their Ladies
Doubles final. With a beautiful sunny day and a top class green
and 12 pairs of bowlers it made a wonderful afternoons bowling.
The standard was as usual very high indeed. Every thing went of
very smoothly.
Mrs. Rita Rogers thanked the Christine Lloyd and Lesley
Burnside, of Cleobury Bowls, for organising the event on behalf
of the Ludlow Ladies League.

This years Poppy
day appeal, bowls competition
was a tremendous
successes with the weather holding fine all day.
42 players took part, made up of Cleobury Club members and
members of the British Legion Clubs from the local areas
i.e. Cleobury, Clee Hill, Rock and Far Forest.
A total of £220.00 was raised for the Poppy Appeal.
The playing format was 3 games of of 7 ends.
because of the high entry the winners and runners
were decided on the two highest scores.
Betty & Jim Scored 30 shots and dick & Howard scored 28 shots.
A special thanks
must go to all the members who helped run the event.
The Ladies who helped with the catering: Ann Jones, Lesley
Burnside,
Lauren Burnside, Joyce Blakemore and Betty Rose.

THE ALAN POWELL
TROPHY
MAY 5TH 2014
This Trophy was
once again played for at the Gilt Edge Bowling Club
Kidderminster.
This is an
annual trophy played for on an alternate yearly basis on May
Day,
against Cleobury
Mortimer Bowling Club. Cleobury normally play crown green rules
but when they visit Gilt Edge they play flat green rules.
The match was
played over 21 ends on 5 rinks.
The match was
played in the most friendly manner and everyone had a wonderful
day. After the match all players and guests sat down to a superb
meal.
So thank you
Gilt Edge for a great day.
Unfortunately
for Cleobury Gilt Edge were on top form and won the match quite
convincingly the final score was 125- 59.
