ABSENT FRIENDS
DON SCOTFORD Don joined the Cleobury Mortimer Bowls Club in 1997 and due to his popularity he took over as Chairman after Ray Stott stood down in 2000. Don placed great emphasis on involving all members in any decisions made within the club and wanted everyone to feel that the club belonged to them. He was always a calming influence in any disputes that arose and would always ensure that any problems would be satisfactorily resolved. Don was a very good bowler, playing for the Cleobury team and at one time the Mortimer team in the Ludlow league and Cleobury 'A' in the Highley league. He also enjoyed great success in the Sunday Morning League with the Marksmen. He was also a member of the Highley Bowls Club and played in their Second team of the Senior Citizens. He introduced the idea of getting both clubs involved in supporting the annual Air ambulance days and so raised 100s of pounds for this great cause. The Club prospered under Don's chairmanship. He will be sadly missed and will be a hard act to follow. As a mark of respect the newly refurbished pavilion will in the future be called the DON SCOTFORD PAVILION 1933- 2011 |
